Ambapuram Shiva temple

Ambapuram is a hamlet located at around 18 kms from Chidambaram. One can reach Ambapuram, also known as Ambalpuram, by traveling two kilometers along the road branching east from Pinnalur, situated between Chethiyathoppu and Vadalur. Nestled at the end of Pillaimar Street, on the right-hand side of the town boundary, lies a dilapidated Shiva temple.

Locally called as Shri Kailasanathar temple, this dilapidated temples has sannidhis dedicated to Kailasanathar and Kalyanasundari, alongside Subramaniar, Vinayakar Upasannidhis. The history of this temple is still unknown. Adjacent to the temple stands the temple pond. Despite once being a vibrant center of worship with six daily rituals, this sacred site now remains locked and obscured by overgrowth. The decline in religious activities mirrors the exodus of the Pillaimar community from the village, prompted by dwindling agricultural revenues over the past two decades.

May this ancient temple see the light of its past glory.

Om Namah Shivaya
