Brahma Nandeeshwar Temple, Thirumettrali, Thanjavur

Sri Bramarambigai sametha Brahma Nandeeshwar Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to lord Shiva located in Thirumettrali near Patteeshwaram in Kumbakonam Taluk in Thanjavur District of Tamil Nadu. The Temple is situated on the northern banks of the T.R Pattinam River. The temple is the Parihara Sthalam for Naga dosham and Bramahatti dosham and the sthala purana suggests that the Lord here was worshipped by Lord Brahma and a Naga Kannigai. There is a 10th CE Naga kannigai statue where pooja is done even today.

The ruins indicate this temple had a three tier Raja Gopuram but currently only certain parts of high fort walls are left. The consort of Aditya Chola I, Azhisi Kattadigal had contributed to this temple enormously. An inscription here suggests the grant by Raja Raja chola as well. Inside Sri Brahma Nandeeswarar blesses us in a stunning large lingam form with unique square shaped Avudai. There is a separate sannidhi for Ambal inside.

Currently this ancient and historic temple is in the verge of extinction and there is an urgent need to bring it back to its older glory.
