Following the footsteps of Thirunavukkarasar, Annamalaiyar Arappani Kuzhu, a chennai based temple revival group brought to light an ancient gem which was hidden and unseen for the last few centuries.

Visalakshmi Sametha Kasi Viswanathar Temple

Located in the northern banks of River Cheyyar, Thiru Magaral is situated at around12 kms from Walajabad in Kanchipuram dt, Tamil nadu. Ancient scriptures indicate that Thiru Magaral was also called Padhanoopuram,Thirupurandakam and Gireesapuram. Thiru Magaral is also famous for the exquisite 9th Century Thirumagaraleeswarar temple, one of the 'Padal Petra Sthalams'.

Kasi Viswanathar Temple is located to the south of Thirumagaral adjacent to River Cheyyar. From inscriptions, it is understood that the temple must have been built between 1200 - 1500 AD. They also suggest that the temple was maintained by a sidda purusha named Thirumalai Siddhar whose jeeva samadhi is few meters away.

Uzhavarapani was carried out by Annamalaiyar Arappani Kuzhu on 21.Oct.2018. Before uzhavarapani, this temple was completely hidden with thick vegetation making it invisible outside. As the team started removing the shrubs, a beautiful temple emerged. A portion of the structure is completely damaged due to a overgrown peepal tree on its walls. Inside, the team saw a stunning 6 ft statue of the Goddess with an intriguing smile. To the left , partially destroyed lingam was found with only the Avudai intact. Sri Mahavishnu along with Sridevi & Boodevi blesses us in a separate sannidhi. A beautiful Nandi was found outside the temple while clearing the bushes. He seemed to be waiting for the temple to be back in all its glory. There was a huge rock buried at the entrance. When the team moved it, it turned out to be a gorgeous sculpture depicting Lord Subramanya on Airavata, Indra's elephant. Daily puja started thereafter.

This temple is now ready for renovation. As first step, Balalayam was performed on 11th June 2019 with villagers' support. Let us pray and hope this ancient wonder is back in its glory.

Om Namah Shivaya !!
